Frequently Asked Questions:
What activities will my child be doing?
It will be an action packed day! Participants will enjoy living the life of a high school theatre student with activities like: workshops in technical theatre, arts and crafts projects, improv games, singing and dancing to their favorite songs (and some musical theatre classics), learning music from our upcoming musical Into the Woods and so much more!
Can my child participate if not enrolled in a West Springfield High School feeder school?
Yes! All are welcome!
What should my child bring?
Water Bottle
Lunch and snacks (if student is not eating the provided lunch)
Medical accommodations (i.e. epi-pen, inhaler)
Clothes they can move in, that you are okay with them getting a little messy
Will my child need to have previous theatrical experience?
No, we welcome everyone of all ability levels to participate!
How will students be supervised?
Each grade level will have two high school volunteers with them at all times. Each workshop/activity will have two to three student leaders as well. Additionally, our Parent board will be volunteering to help supervise the hallways, lunch room and theatre spaces.
How will check-in/out work?
All entry and exits from the building will be from Door 5 (around the back of the building). We will have check-in/out volunteers to make sure arrival and dismissal happen safely and efficiently.
Check-in: To ensure a quick arrival process, please have your emergency care information with you if you have not already submitted electronically. A parent or guardian will need to physically walk the student into the building. Students will be given a name badge, group assignment and escorted to the auditorium.
Check-out: End of the day is 4pm. Students will remain in the auditorium at the end of the day until an authorized parent or guardian has signed them out. Upon checking-out, students will return their name badge.
What should I do if I need to update my registration?
Email Ashton Schaffer (Theatre Director) at aschaffer1@fcps.edu.
Will food be provided?
Both lunch and snacks will be provided, but if your child prefers something from home, they may bring their own lunch and snacks as well. Please no nut products.
How will pick-up work?
If picking up before the performance, children will be signed out physically and return their name tag, to show that they are not under our care. Same situation for after the performance, but if parents are not with the child during their performance, they will sit in a specific section to make sure they are safe and watched.
Can parents/guardians watch the performance?
Yes! Parents are welcome to come and watch the first act of Into the Woods with their student. The run will begin around 2:15. No tickets are needed. We do ask that only parents/guardians attend, please no extended family or friends. All students will receive a discount code to come back and watch the full show the following weekend!
I can no longer attend, can I get a refund for my registration?
We’re sorry to hear your student can longer join us! In regulation with FCPS policies, all sales are final. We do not have the authority to issue refunds or ticket credits.
